Gambier, Ohio – Adding another chapter to one of the oldest rivalries in Ohio, the Oberlin College men's basketball team took down Kenyon on Wednesday night. The 52-47 win put Oberlin at 10-7 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.
Asaan Snipes-Rea and
JJ Gray led the team with double-digit scoring, scoring 11 and ten points, respectively. Gray dished out a team-high four assists, while the duo combined for nine rebounds.
Andrew Gannon shot 3-5 from behind the arc for all nine of his points. Defensively, Gannon also added a pair of steals.
Milun Micanovic pulled in a team-high seven rebounds and made a pair of blocks in the win.
Gannon opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers, leading Oberlin to outscore Kenyon 27-17 in the first half. The defense held the Owls to 5-29 from the field, and 1-14 from beyond the arc. It was a complete team effort with 11 points coming off the bench.
Kenyon made quick work of their ten-point deficit with an 8-2 run to start the second half. Snipes-Rea drilled a triple to end the Yeomen's drought, but the Owls responded to tie the game at 33-33 at 13:16. The two rivals went point-for-point until Gray hit the would-be winning jumper at 4:19. Oberlin held Kenyon to just two points over the last four minutes, to secure the NCAC win.
The Yeomen return to the court when they come home this Saturday, January 25 to begin the second half of the conference season. Hosting (RV) Wooster, Oberlin is set to tip off at 3 p.m.
