Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Oberlin Holds Wittenberg Below .500 in Defensive Matchup

Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team fell behind early and were unable to come back against a well-paced Wittenberg team. The 61-45 loss set the Yeomen back to 9-7 and 1-6 in the NCAC.

JJ Gray and Milun Micanovic once again led the scoring for Oberlin, with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Coming off the bench, Matt Andreopoulos added another nine points in addietion to a pair of rebounds.

Micanovic pulled in eight boards followed by Andrew Gannon with four of his own. Yuuki Okubo and Zach Bronson added a block and a steal to the defense.

After back-to-back jumpers by Gray and Adam Navarre, the Crimson and Gold cooled down, not scoring again for over nine minutes. Gannon ended the drought and Gray responded with a three-pointer, but Oberlin was behind 18-9. Asaan Snipes-Rea and Zach Smith contributed to the scoring efforts but Oberlin was behind 27-16 at the half.

Behind a triple from Andreopoulos, the Yeowomen pulled within nine of the Tigers' lead at the 13:49 mark in the second half. Even with the small boost, the Oberlin squad never got any closer to the lead as they dropped their sixth conference game. While the Yeomen offense shot below .500 for the game, the defense held the Tigers below even as well. This marks the eighth time this season that the Crimson and Gold have held their opponents at 65 points or below.

Oberlin stays on the road for their next match against Kenyon on Wednesday, January 22, at 7 p.m.
