Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Fall Behind Late Against Hiram

Oberlin, Ohio – In a gritty midweek matchup, the Oberlin College men's basketball team fell to the Hiram Terriers on Wednesday night. After a heartbreaking 60-56 loss, Oberlin falls to 9-6 overall and 1-5 in NCAC action.

Three Yeomen shared scored duties; JJ Gray, Milun Micanovic, and Yuuki Okubo all finished with 11 points. Micanovic and Gray pulled in eight rebounds each alongside Andrew Gannon who also added eight rebounds. Adam Navarre chipped in with a pair of blocks while Okubo made three steals in the loss.

Oberlin struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just above .250 while letting Hiram shoot 17-35. Although the Yeomen maintained consistent scoring, the Terriers scored twice for every one Crimson and Gold basket. After missing back-to-back layups, Oberlin faced a 31-16 deficit. The Yeomen finished with a trio of free throws by Okubo and Gray, but were still down 37-25 at the half.

The Crimson and Gold built an incredible comeback through the opening minutes of the second half. Micanovic highlighted a 19-4 run for the Yeomen, after tipping in a missed layup from Okubo to give Oberlin their first lead since the early minutes of the game.

With a 46-41 edge midway through the half, Hiram responded with a furry of buckets to regain a one-point lead. The drama of a close game escalated, peaking when Asaan Snipes-Rea broke away down the court for a three-pointer. Unfortunately for the Yeomen, the scoring ended there, as Hiram held off Oberlin's attempts to get ahead and ultimately stole the conference win.

Oberlin takes a short break to reset before hitting the road on Saturday, January 18 when they head to Wittenberg. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
