Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Navarre Records Career Night in Loss to Tigers

Greencastle, Indiana – Hitting the road to take on DePauw Tigers, the Oberlin College men's basketball came up on the wrong end of a 76-73 final score. Adam Navarre shined with a team-high 18 points, but it wasn't enough as the Yeomen fall to 9-5 overall and 1-4 in the NCAC.

In addition to his team-high 18 points, Navarre collected five rebounds and two assists. The sharp shooting junior went 6-9 from behind the arc to set a new career record for three-pointers in a single game. Yuuki Okubo also finished in double-digits, amassing 16 points to go along with his eight assists. Rounding out the scoring trio was JJ Gray, who tallied 14 points.

Milun Micanovic anchored the defense with eight rebounds and a pair of blocks, while Gray pulled in six rebounds and added two steals to the effort.

Oberlin came out quick, jumping to an early lead behind the hot hands of Navarre. At 10:17, Andrew Gannon rebounded a missed three-pointer from the Tigers giving way for Zach Smith to score a jumper in the paint. Up 29-26, DePauw responded point-for-point with the Crimson and Gold until a pair of free throws gave the home team a 34-33 edge. Exploding for the final minutes of the half, Oberlin responded with 11 unanswered points to take a ten-point lead in the final minute.

Oberlin outscored the Tigers 44-38 in the first half, shooting 51% from the field and perfect from the free throw line.

DePauw picked up where they left off in the first half, scoring four points to cut Oberlin's lead to two. A triple from Navarre lift the Yeomen back to a two-score advantage, but the Tigers continued to go toe-to-toe with the Crimson and Gold. A timely three-pointer from DePauw's Reph Stevenson tied the game at 60-60 with 8:27 remaining. Stevenson rallied the home team with back-to-back dunks turnovers by the Yeomen, putting Oberlin behind by as much as eight points.

Coming in clutch as he had all game, Navarre drilled a much-needed three-pointer to tie the game at 73-73 with 2:56 left in regulation. Unfortunately for Oberlin, those were the last points of the game as DePauw locked in on defense to stall the Yeomen. Sam Jacobs and Joe Smith combined for the final three points to clinch the victory for DePauw.

Conceding a heartbreaker on the road, the Yeomen will rest and reset before returning to the court on Wednesday, January 15 when they host the Hiram Terriers at home. Looking to play a get-right game, Oberlin is set for a late tip off at 8 p.m.
