Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yeomen Bring Home Victory Over the Presidents

Washington, PA – In their final game before the start of the North Coast slate, the Oberlin College men's soccer team claimed victory over Washington and Jefferson on Saturday afternoon. Oberlin improves to 4-5-1 overall.

Xander Francoeur and Anthony Pacewicz led the Crimson and Gold on offense, accounting for all three of Oberlin's scores. The Yeomen dominated the attack, outshooting 15(9)-8(3), while Grayson Benson made a pair of saves to secure the win.

After a scoreless first half, Francoeur put the Yeomen on the board after heading the ball into the back of the net from a corner kick by Pacewicz. With the 1-0 lead in the 77', the Presidents committed a foul inside the goal box, conceding a penalty kick to the Yeomen. Stepping up to the stripe, Pacewicz sent the ball to the right side of cage where the W&J goalie dove for the stop. Following his shot, Pacewicz collected the rebound to tap the ball across and into the left side of the net.

Just minutes after taking a two-goal advantage, W&J earned a penalty kick of their own after Oberlin committed a foul in the box trying to clear the ball out of their defensive end. Benson dove in the right direction for the save, but the ball sailed into the upper corner for the goal.

In the 89', Oberlin shut down any hope of a hail mary tie for the Presidents, with a shot to cage off the foot of Francoeur. Outrunning his defense in the midfield, he crossed the ball in front of the goalie before popping it into goal to clinch the victory.

Oberlin stays on the road for their next match when they open conference play against Wooster on Saturday, October 5. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
