Men’s Soccer Ties Baldwin Wallace

Berea, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's soccer team played its first of four straight road games Wednesday night at nearby Baldwin Wallace University, settling for a 1-1 draw.

Despite controlling a bulk of the possession throughout the first half, the Yeomen played from behind for most of the opening 45-minute stanza, conceding an early set-piece goal less than seven minutes into the match when Cimi Halilaj put one into top the left corner off a service from Ben McCauley.

Oberlin finished the first half with a 6-4 shot advantage and 3-2 edge in corners, but its lone attempt on frame by Leo Pelizzari-Astle was turned away. BW's aggressive play also led to them being whistled for two yellow cards and four offside infractions in the opening session.

The Yeomen would find the equalizer in the 62nd minute when Pelizzari-Astle left one at the feet of Louis Gandelheid on the far left side of the box and the junior from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, did the rest with a quick touch to create some space before launching one into the upper right corner of the net to level the affair. It marked his first score of the season and fifth of his career.

Oberlin put just four of its 10 shots on target in the match and got physical with the Yellow Jackets, especially in the second half as the Yeomen drew a season-high six yellow cards in the contest.

Grayson Benson made four saves over 90 minutes of work to run his season account to 26.

The result moved the Yeomen to 3-5-1 on the year as they earned their first draw of the season after having six last year.

Oberlin's journey away from Fred Shults Field will continue on Saturday afternoon at Washington & Jefferson with the first touch set for 1 p.m.
