Meadville, PA - The revamped Oberlin College women's tennis team had a strong start to its 2024-25 season over the weekend at the Allegheny College Invitational.
The Yeowomen picked up 11 total wins as a team with seven of those coming in doubles action.
Senior
Anna Pastore and transfer
Rachel Allen won both of their doubles battles as the duo took down Maria Lounder and Julia Musseler of Allegheny, 6-4, and set aside Sofia Benito and Cecilia Carayol of Edinboro, 7-5.
Newcomers
Olivia Wollner and
Scarlett Kingston also swept through doubles, dispatching the Baldwin Wallace pairing of Olivia Koutouras and Saraphina Groh, 6-0, before outlasting another Yellow Jacket tandem of Colleen Andersen and Emma Trost, 7-6 (7-5).
The winning ways rolled on with
Freya Rahm and
Eva Lopez earning a 6-4 triumph over Allegheny's Alejandra Villanueva and Omega Ba. They would also edge out a 7-6 (7-4) victory over the Allegheny team of Emiliia Grydnieva and Adriana Navarro.
Oberlin's
Hannah Soong and
Moe Ariyoshi also secured a 7-5 win over Gillian Brown and Samantha Thielen of Baldwin Wallace.
A native of Bentonville, Arkansas, Lopez picked up her first collegiate singles win by overtaking Allegheny's Rei Etsum 5-7, 6-2, 10-7. Wollner also notched her first-career win, easily handling Brown of BW, 6-3, 6-0.
Pastore was a 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 victor over Aleksandra Chmir of Division II Walsh University, while Allen registered her first win in the crimson and gold with a 2-6, 6-3, 10-0 victory over Evie Ellenberger from the host Gators.
Oberlin is set to take part in the College of Wooster Invitational on Saturday.
