Yeomen Soccer Earns a Road Win at Muskingum

New Concord, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's soccer team turned in a commanding 1-0 victory at Muskingum University on Saturday afternoon to secure its second win of the season.

Despite netting only one goal, the Yeomen completely controlled the run of play throughout the 90-minute tussle, evidenced by a 15-3 shot advantage, which included a 6-2 margin in shots on goal.

The two foes went into the intermission nil-nil but the Yeomen would finally breakthrough in the 66th minute when senior Xander Francoeur was able send in his second goal of the season and 12th of his career with the help of a Nathan Thompson assist.

The Yeomen rearguard wasn't tested much, especially in the second half as the Muskies failed to take a shot over the final 45 minutes of action.

Oberlin was looking for more than just a single tally but could not find it as Francoeur put three of his team-high six shots on frame while Toby Wells-Zimmerman and Leo Pelizzari-Astle each fired off three attempts with one being on goal for both players.

First-year Grayson Benson went the distance in goal and made two saves.

Oberlin, which has won two of its last three matches to run its record to 2-4 on the year, also had an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Yeomen return home to host Muskingum University on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
