Top-30 Kenyon Takes Out Oberlin

OBERLIN, OH- Taking on one of the best teams in the nation, the Oberlin College men's tennis team fell to #30 Kenyon on Saturday afternoon. The 9-0 loss drops the Yeomen to 5-9 on the season and 0-3 in conference action.

At the top of the doubles matches, Shawn Lisann and Sebastien Naginski dropped their match 8-1 to the Owls' top tandem of Paulo Pacasangre and Gianluca Bocanegra. Zain Makada and Rohan Gold earned the No. 2 slot but ultimately fell 8-6 to their Kenyon counterparts. Rounding out doubles play, James Foster and Ben Tichauer lost 8-5.

In singles play, Gold took the No. 1 spot where he lost 6-1, 6-1 before Lisann lost 6-1, 6-4 in the second spot. Continuing down the line, Naginski put up a strong fight in the opening set, only losing 7-5. The third-year was unable to maintain the momentum, dropping the second set 6-1 for the loss.

Having clinched the win already, Kenyon continued their route of the Yeomen, taking out Makada at No. 4 6-2, 6-1. Tichauer played one of the more competitive matches of the day, forcing a tiebreaker in the first set. After losing 7-6 (7-3) in the tiebreak, Tichauer lost a close 6-4 second to drop the match. Foster battled in the final singles match, but the Owls were too much for the second-year who lost 6-0, 6-1.

A short turnaround for their next match, Oberlin gets back on the court tomorrow, Sunday, April 14, for an away match at Denison. The Big Red will prove to be even more of a challenge for the Yeomen, sitting inside the top-20 at #14. The NCAC foes are set to begin at 12 p.m.
