Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Top Tigers on Senior Day

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's basketball team celebrated Senior Day in style, knocking off the visiting DePauw University Tigers, 84-76, on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gym.

Prior to tip, the Yeomen honored their four graduating players; Dimitrije Radusinovic, Henry Lieber, Lachie Macfarlane, and Anastasis Spyroglou. Each member of the foursome started and provided an immediate spark as Lieber, Spyroglou, and Macfarlane each scored in the first minute of action, helping the Yeomen claim a 13-4 lead two and half minutes into the game.

In the end, it was Spyroglou who cashed in a season-high 21 points with the bulk of his damage coming at the free throw line where he finished 10-of-13. Radusinovic matched Asaan Snipes-Rea with 11 points, while JJ Gray posted 10 tallies in the win.

After the hot start by the Yeomen, DePauw worked its way back into the game and eventually evening the count at 19-19 on a Camden Brown bucket with 12:20 left on the first-half clock. However, Robert Millard's second triple-hit of the half made it a 30-25 Oberlin advantage at the 8:42 mark.

Oberlin was later clinging to a 32-29 lead but would push the margin back into double digits with a mini 7-0 spurt that featured a long-range strike from Will Bousquette III and four points from Gray. However, the Yeomen would ultimately settle for a six-point cushion at the break, carrying a 41-35 differential into the locker room.

It was nip and tuck following the restart as the Tigers rallied to tie the game at 45 and 47 before briefly taking the lead, 51-47. Millard would respond with his third triple-hit of the game and Gray would leak out following a turnover to reclaim the lead for the home side and Oberlin would never trail again.

Oberlin led 67-64 with 5:25 still to expire but an 8-0 response over the next three minutes that was capped off by a old-school 3-point play by Spyroglou swelled the lead to 11 and the Yeomen would go one to finish off the victory by depositing 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch to rubberstamp the victory.

The Yeomen shot 49.1 percent from the floor with 28 makes on 57 shots, which included an impressive 9-of-15 (60%) from beyond the arc. OC also cashed in 19 of the 24 freebies it hoisted for a 79.2 percent success rate.

The win ran Oberlin's record to 13-10 overall and 7-7 in the NCAC. The Tigers, who have just one regular season game remaining, head back home at 11-13 and 6-9 in league play.

The Yeomen have two road tilts left on their schedule, starting on Wednesday night at league rival Kenyon. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m.
