Oberlin, Ohio – Hosting the Wabash Little Giants for their first conference game at home, the Oberlin College men's basketball team fell to the NCAC foe 57-66 on Saturday afternoon. Oberlin drops to 5-3 on the season and 0-3 in conference action.
Milun Micanovic led the team with 14 points, making five baskets, and securing a team-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
Yuuki Okubo contributed significantly with ten points and led the team with five assists.
Will Bousquette III added nine points, pulling in an additional six rebounds.
Asaan Snipes-Rea also had a solid performance, scoring sevent points and recording both a block and a steal.
The first half between Oberlin and the Little Giants saw the latter taking jump out to an early lead 3-0 on the back of free-throws. Okubo got the Yeomen rolling with a three-pointer at 5:00, while Micanovic tipped in a basket to pace with Wabash. Down ten, Bousquette III brought the Yeomen back within single digits, after drilling a long shot form behind the arc. A pair of free-throws from
JJ Gray brought Oberlin within sic, but they never got closer as the Little Giants continued to their hot streak for a 34-21 lead at the half.
Zach Smith got the second half rolling with a three-pointer right at the start, but Wabash quickly responded with their own triple. At the 17:07 mark,
Andrew Gannon blocked a shot, that led to Will Bousquette knocking down a three-pointer to close the gap to 40-31. Despite Oberlin's efforts, including Micanovic's layups and Snipes-Rea's free throws, the Little Giants maintained their lead with Rich Brooks and Vinny Buccilla making key plays, leading to a final score of 66-57 in favor of the Little Giants.
The Oberlin basketball team looks to bounce back in their next game on Tuesday, December 10. Oberlin takes a short break from the NCAC to travel north for a date with Kalamazoo. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
