Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Gray Has Career Night in Win Over Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, Michigan – Getting back to their winning ways, JJ Gray scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Oberlin College men's basketball team to victory on Tuesday night. Defeating Kalamazoo 78-65, the Yeomen improve to 6-3 on the season.

In addition to his 28 points, Gray pulling in seven rebounds and a block to guide the offense. Yuuki Okubo also finished in double-digits with 14 points, seven assists, and a trio of rebounds.

Recording his second straight double-double, Milun Micanovic led the defense with 11 rebounds and 12 points. Ten of the senior's 11 rebounds came on defense. Asaan Snipes-Rea and Zach Bronson helped keep the offense loose, each tallying a pair of assists.

The Yeomen wasted no time getting on the board as Gray knocked down a three-pointer in response to the Hornets opening bucket. It was Gray again with the next two buckets before Will Bousquette III drilled a long three to give Oberlin a 10-7 lead.

While the Hornets managed to stay pace with Oberlin, the Crimson and Gold finally created space on the back of three-pointers from Adam Navarre and Rob Magner. Up by double-digits, kept Kalamazoo at arms length until the Hornets hit a trey in the final minute cut the lead to nine at halftime.

Coming out of the break with a 40-31 lead, Oberlin extended that lead to ten with free-throws from Andrew Gannon. Although having shot better in the first half, the Yeomen managed to make up for the tired offense with a strong defensive effort. The Crimson and Gold held the Hornets to just 12-of-33 from the field in the second half on top of six turnovers.

It was all Yeomen at the end, however, as Oberlin scored eight straight points in the last minute to secure the 78-65 road victory.

Oberlin returns to the court for one last time before the holiday break, hosting the Adrian Bulldogs at home on Saturday, December 14.
