Springfield, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's soccer team netted two second-half goals to secure a 2-2 draw at Wittenberg University on Saturday evening.
The Yeomen got off to a really slow start, getting out-shot 10-0 in the opening half as the Tigers got goals from Anthony Carpenter and Marcus Orton in the opening 45-minute frame. However, whatever longtime head coach
Blake New said at the intermission clearly worked as the Yeomen were able to flip the script in the second half.
Senior
Anthony Pacewicz cut the Tigers' lead in half in the 62nd minute with his sixth goal of the year and the Yeomen would find the equalizer late as fellow upperclassmen
Xander Francoeur deposited his team-leading eighth goal of the year with under two minutes to play to salvage a tie for Oberlin.
Oberlin took all seven of its shots over the final 45 minutes, but the Tigers pestered the Yeomen rearguard throughout the 90-minute affair,, firing off 17 shots and finishing with a 7-4 margin in shots on goal. The Tigers also earned nine corner kicks compared to the Yeomen's two.
Grayson Benson and
Vince Fortuna split time between the pipes, totaling five saves.
The Yeomen moved to 5-9-2 and 1-4-1 in the NCAC, while the Tigers sit at 3-6-3 and 1-3-1 in league action.
Oberlin returns home to host Kenyon College on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
