Tigers Top Yeomen

Greencastle, IN - The DePauw University Tigers used a big second half en route to earning a 3-1 victory over the Oberlin College Yeomen on Saturday afternoon.

The two conference foes were knotted at 1-1 at the intermission but Oberlin conceded two goals over the final nine minutes of action to make the Yeomen's trip back to Oberlin that much longer.

Senior Xander Francoeur's team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 15th minute staked Oberlin to the early advantage. The Cupertino, California, native was assisted by junior Nathan Thompson as he delivered his team-best fourth helper of the season.

The Tigers would find the equalizer just before the halftime horn as Harrison Engel finished off an Alek Habecker corner kick service.

It would remain even till the closing moments when Sebastian Leon and Braden Murphey scored within 1:17 of each other to put the rubber stamp on the victory.

DePauw finished with a 12-4 shot advantage but had just a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. However, the Tigers triggered eight corners compared to Oberlin's one.

Grayson Benson and Vince Fortuna split halves in goal with Benson finishing with one save.

The loss dropped Oberlin back to 4-9-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the NCAC, while the result moved the Tigers to 8-3-3 and 2-1-1 in league play.

The Yeomen return home to host Hiram College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
