Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team faced a tough defeat against Denison, falling 3-0 in a hard-fought home match. The Crimson and Gold drop to 0-9 on the season and 0-5 in NCAC action.
Despite the loss, goalkeeper
Janny McCormick had a standout performance, making an impressive 12 saves. McCormick's efforts kept the team in the game, especially during the first period, where she recorded seven crucial stops against the Big Red's attack.
Although hard-fought defensively, Denison's Emma Gebhart broke through with a goal in the third period. The pressure continued, with Reilly Desmond adding another goal, and Lila Smith capitalizing on a penalty shot to close out the game.
Oberlin's backline, led by players like
Johana Horvath and
Elly Scheer, battled tirelessly to limit Denison's opportunities. Although crossing into our attacking half several times, the Crimson and Gold were unable to generate many offensive chances of their own, falling short of recording a shot in the match.
Though Oberlin is still searching for their first win of the season, the team's resilience and McCormick's strong performance between the posts remain bright spots to build on as they look ahead to future matches.
Oberlin hits the road for their next contest on Sunday, October 13 when they take on Ohio Wesleyan at 12 p.m.
