OBERLIN, OH – Looking to snap a four-game losing streak against the Battling Bishops, the Oberlin College men's basketball team took down Ohio Wesleyan 72-63, on Saturday afternoon. Oberlin improves in conference action, moving to 2-3 and 8-6 overall.
Oberlin continues their homestand next Wednesday, January 10 when they host their storied rival, the Kenyon Owls. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
How It Happened
Will Bousquette III wasted no time for the Crimson and Gold, knocking down a three-pointer to start the conference matchup. After a 8-0 run from the visitors, Robert Millard hit a trey to cut into the lead. Yuuki Okubo tied up the game, as the two teams looked to fight point-for-point. Zach Bronson kept the Crimson and Gold in the game with back-to-back jumpers that resulted in five points. Down 17-15, Zach Smith cashed in a three-pointer to retake the lead.
With just under six minutes remaining in the half, Dimitrije Radusinovic nailed a three-pointer before JJ Gray added four points to take a 27-21 lead. OWU stormed back with a run of their own as they tied the game at 27-27 with 2:54 left to play. The two teams swapped points before Millard closed out the half with a three-point play after capitalizing off a shooting foul. Oberlin took to the locker rooms with a 30-29 advantage over Ohio Wesleyan.
With another three-pointer to open the half, Bousquette put the Yeomen up by four as Oberlin looked to continue their first-half momentum. At the 13:19 mark, Anastatsis Spyroglou made his mark on the game with a triple from long to start a 13-6 run for the Crimson and Gold. Highlighted by a trio of treys, Smith and Millard added to their count total as Oberlin took a six-point lead over Ohio Wesleyan.
The Bishops' Isaac Ward scored six-straight points to neutralize the Yeomen's run. With just five minutes of action remaining, Oberlin's Radusinovic came alive, nailing a pair of treys. Back on top, Asaan Snipes-Rea went 4-4 from the charity before Ward scored another three-pointer from distance. A five-point game with less than a minute to go, Millard hit both his free-throws before the Bishops committed a technical foul giving Oberlin another pair of free points. Okubo went 2-2 at the stripe to give the Crimson and Gold the 72-63 win.
