Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's basketball team turned in a commanding 69-44 victory over the visiting Kenyon College Owls on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.
The victory marked the fifth straight for the Yeomen and the program's first five-game winning since the 2001-2022 season when Oberlin beat Wabash College (78-69), Denison University (70-66), Hiram (69-59), Allegheny College (70-63), and Earlham College (69-69 OT) between January 19 and February 2.
Three Yeomen finished in double figures, led by a game-high 16 points from first-year
JJ Gray. Senior
Dimitrije Radusinovic cashed in five threes off the bench to finish with 15 points, while sophomore center
Milun Micanovic stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks.
Oberlin jumped all over Kenyon from the onset, claiming a 15-5 advantage on a
Robert Millard triple-hit at the 14:42 mark of the first half. After the Owls trimmed the gap down to five at 17-12, the Yeomen responded by ripping off a 10-0 run that featured a pair of threes from Radusinovic to extend the cushion out to 15.
After the Owls temporarily halted the barrage, Radusinovic and the Yeomen went right back to work as the Podgorica, Montenegro, native deposited three 3-pointers over the final 1:52 of the session to give Oberlin a 40-20 halftime advantage.
Following the restart, the Yeomen picked up right where they left off by scoring the first nine points of the second half to swell the margin out to 29, 49-20. Kenyon would continue to fight throughout the remainder of the game but would get no closer than 18 points the rest of the way as the Yeomen easily finished off the victory.
Oberlin's defense forced 16 Kenyon turnovers and held the Owls to just 26.3 percent (15-of-57) shooting, marking the lowest success rate of any Yeomen opponent this season. Oberlin connected on 24 of the 69 shots it hoisted for a 40.7 percent clip, which included an impressive 8-of-17 (47.1%) showing from beyond the arc.
The win ran the Yeomen's record to 9-6 overall and evened up their conference standing at 3-3. The Owls fell back to 4-11 and 2-4 in league play.
Oberlin is back in action on Saturday afternoon at DePauw University. Tip-time is set for 3 p.m.
