Westlake, Ohio - Oberlin College junior
Sam Fechner was named North Coast Athletic Conference Sprinter/Hurdler of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
A native of Hamburg, Germany, Fechner was a busy man at the Fighting Scots Invitational this past Saturday, besting a field of 14 to win the 400-meters in a personal-best time of 49.96 to move into third in the conference in the event.
Fechner also ran the third-leg on the school record-breaking 4x200 unit that clocked in at 1:31.01, which is the top mark in the conference so far this season. He was joined on the unit by
Oliver Briger and
Reese Hyatt in front of him with first-year
Armand Andry handling anchor duties. The foursome narrowly topped the previous Oberlin-best mark of 1:31.26 that was set by Kofi Asare,
Cole Fuller, Hyatt, and Fechner at the 2022 NCAC Indoor Championships.
The track and field teams will be back in action on Saturday at the Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge on the campus of Baldwin Wallace University with field events starting at 10 a.m.
