OBERLIN, OH -- The Oberlin College men's soccer team played the 13th-ranked Polar Bears of Ohio Northern even for 45 minutes but the visitors lived up to their ranking in the second half, scoring four times following the intermission en route to a 4-0 blanking of the Yeomen.
After opening the season against a pair of nationally-ranked teams, the Yeomen finished the weekend at 0-2-0, while ONU moved to 2-0-0 after knocking off NCAC power Kenyon in its season opener.
How it Happened
Oberlin kept Ohio Northern off the scoreboard in the first half - fending off nine total shots - before giving up four goals the remainder of the game. Following the restart, ONU wasted no time in getting on the board as Sam McKee and Will Schaffer both scored in the 49th minute. The Polar Bears would get two more scores from Ryan Sommerfield and Colin Gottron, who cashed in a rebound attempt of Aidan McMahon's initial shot. The Yeomen totaled four shots in the loss, none of them on goal. Oberlin faced 18 Ohio Northern shots with 11 of them being on goal.
