GREENCASTLE, IN – After a gritty win the day before, the Oberlin College field hockey team dropped a tough match against the DePauw Tigers on Sunday afternoon. Conceding the match 4-0, Oberlin falls to 1-6 and 1-4 in the NCAC.
The Crimson and Gold hop two states over for their next match against Allegheny on Sunday, October 1 at 1p.m.
How it Happened
Oberlin gave up an early pair of shots by the Tigers, but the defensive prowess of the Crimson and Gold stood strong against the attack. A save from
Janny McCormick, then a defensive save from
Abbie Patchen, held DePauw at bay early in the match. The Tigers broke loose in the final minutes of the opening period, scoring their first goal off a penalty corner before adding another penalty corner score at the buzzer.
During the quarter crossover, defensive adjustments prevented DePauw from tacking on another goal before the half. Newcomer
Bella Tilford played an integral role in the second-quarter shutdown, making a pair of pivotal defensive saves.
Coming out of the half, DePauw moved swiftly to score again and pull ahead by three. A quiet 15 minutes later, the Tigers scored again for a 4-0 advantage. In the waning minutes of the match, Tilford tallied her third defensive save for the Yeowomen. Oberlin ultimately fell 4-0 to the Tigers and look ahead to their next road test.
