Richmond, IN - The Oberlin College field hockey team earned its first win of the season, knocking off the Earlham College Quakers, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.
It was a second-quarter goal from
Elly Scheer that proved to be the difference as she injected a penalty corner and then moments later found the back of the cage for her second goal of the season and third of her career.
The always stout Oberlin defense did its part as well, fending off seven shot attempts and 10 Earlham penalty corners.
Janny McCormick went the distance in goal and made three saves in the triumph.
Oberlin fired off a season-high 11 shots, with seven of them being on goal. OC also triggered five penalty corners in the win.
Ava Leone led the way with three shots, while Bella Tillford, Scheer, and Ruby Schriber each finished with two.
The win moved Oberlin 1-5 on the year and 1-1 in the NCAC. Earlham is also 1-5 but 0-2 in league play.
The Yeowomen will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. battle at DePauw University.
