OBERLIN, OH -- The Oberlin volleyball team needed only three sets (26-24, 25-14, 25-17) to knock off the Kalamazoo Hornets Thursday at home at Philips Gymnasium.
The non-conference victory boosted the Yeowomen's overall record to 9-1 on the season.
Natalie Dufour hammered home six kills on the night to lead the offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .556.
Lauren Sands and
Andrea Jones also noticed six kills in the win, while sophomore transfer
Iris Archibald guided the back row with 14 digs.Â
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Yeowomen endured a back-and-forth first set to win 26-24 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match. Oberlin also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Oberlin won the second set 25-14 to quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Yeowomen led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory. Oberlin opened up as much as a 12-point lead at 23-11 before closing out the set. Oberlin hit .417 over the course of the set.
SET 3 | Oberlin then capped the three-set sweep with a victory in set number three with a 25-17 triumph. Oberlin trailed by as many as six points, but took the lead for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased three lead changes before Oberlin pulled away in the second half of the session. The Oberlin offense also got a boost from three aces while upfront they also registered four blocks.
