OBERLIN, OH --The Oberlin volleyball team fired back after an early one-set deficit to secure a 3-1 win (22-25, 25-10, 25-12, 25-21) over the Capital Comets on Tuesday night.
The out-of-conference win boosted the Yeowomen's overall record to 8-1 on the season, already surpassing their win total from a season ago.
Are'Anna Gill finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Oberlin attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .444. OC also got 14 digs from Iris Archibald to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | Oberlin rallied from a seven-point 10-3 deficit, but Capital hung on to win the first set 25-22.
SET 2 | Oberlin responded to pick up a 25-10 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Yeowomen led from the first point on in the set to and opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 15 points, to close out the session. The Yeowomen hit .400 over the course of the set and also got a boost with five aces in the stanza. Oberlin's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Capital attacks in the frame and capitalizing on 10 Capital attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 3 | Oberlin built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a lead at two sets to one. The Yeowomen ripped off seven straight points to start the set en route to secure a 25-12 victory. Oberlin produced15 kills in the stanza while only registering one attack error in the process.
SET 4 | Oberlin claimed a match win with a 25-21 fourth-set victory, coming from behind and erasing a 16-11 deficit in the process. The Yeowomen took the lead for good at 20-19 in a set that had just one lead change before Oberlin took over in the second half of the stanza.
