Oberlin, Ohio - The visiting Denison University Big Red scored early and often en route to a 70-0 victory over the Oberlin College football team on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
The Big Red scored five first-quarter touchdowns and never looked back as they moved to 2-1 (1-0 NCAC) on the year, while the Yeomen dropped back to 1-2 (0-1 NCAC)..
Senior running back Trey Fabrocini led the Denison offense with 186 yards rushing on 21 carries, scoring five first-half touchdowns while senior quarterback Jimmy Stines was an efficient 11-of-17 passing for 197 yards and two scores.
The Yeomen offense never found its footing, finishing with 110 yards of total offense. QB
Drew Nye was just 11-of-33 for 63 yards and was intercepted three times.
The opening drive was off to a solid start for the Yeomen as
NuNu Samuels had a 13-yard run before Nye found
Nathaniel Castro on the near sideline for a 28-yard yard gain to get into Denison territory. However, It would all be for naught as Jaylin Epps stepped in front of an errant attempt from Nye and took it back 86 yards for a touchdown.
Fabrocini would follow with first-quarter TD runs of 33, 3, 2, and 1 yards to make it 35-0 after 15 minutes of play.
Denison would go on to lead 49-0 at the half and would score three more times in the second half to leave no doubt on the eventual outcome.
Luca Friedman led the defense with eight tackles, while
Willem Chojnicki,
Evan Elliott, and
Brandon Hall each had six. First-year Abraham Cromartie V also registered his first-career sack.
The Yeomen are back in action next Saturday at Wabash College with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
