Yeowomen Drop Spring Break Finale to Carleton

Hilton Head, SC - The Oberlin College women's tennis team concluded its spring break slate, falling 8-1 to Carleton College on Thursday morning.

With Oberlin automatically defaulting three points, the winner of the match was unfortunately decided after doubles play with Knights winning both of the contested matches.

In the top flight, Marta Laska and Anna Pastore finished on the wrong side of an 8-6 count against Mary Frances Hose and Amelia Asfaw. The No. 2 battle also ended 8-6 in favor of Carleton as Mariam Nechiporuk and Ingrid Smith halted Dina Nouaime and Lydia Zafeiri's winning streak at four.

Three of the four singles matches went the distance, including the top flight where Laska outlasted Asfaw 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 for her fourth win in her last five matches.

Hose got by Pastore at No. 2, defeating the Oberlin sophomore 6-1, 2-6, 10-4, while Zafeiri also pushed Miriam Shteyman to the brink before falling 4-6, 6-0, 9-11.

At No. 3 Nouaime was upended by Nechiporuk 6-1, 6-4.

With the loss Oberlin fell back to 5-6 while Carleton remained unblemished on the year, moving to 12-0.

Oberlin will return home to make the short trek over to John Carroll University for a 4:30 p.m. match on Tuesday of next week.
