Chestertown, MD - The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team was unable to find its rhythm at Washington College (MD) on Wednesday night, dropping an 22-11 decision against Shoremen to wrap-up the spring break slate.
Oberlin got off to a hot start, claiming a 3-1 lead after one quarter of action but from then on the Shoremen made some key adjustments as the Yeomen offense was stymied the rest of the way. The Yeomen tallies came courtesy of
Jacob Starcke,
Solomon Brennan, and
Max Cha.
The second quarter started with a string of four straight Shoremen goals before
Niko Maheras finished off a man-up opportunity with the help of a Cha assist at the 6:31 mark to trim the deficit down to one at 5-4. Unfortunately, Washington responded with four more scores to carry a 9-4 advantage into the intermission.
The difference continued to grow in the second half as the Shoremen cashed in six third-quarter goals while limiting the Yeomen to just two which came from Cha and Starcke - the latter being assisted by
Michael Muldoon.
The offensive display by the Shoremen would roll into the fourth quarter as they tacked on seven more goals in the victory to run their record to 6-2 while the Yeomen dropped back to 4-3.
Cha led the way for Oberlin with five points on four scores and an assist, while Starcke also netted four goals in the loss to run his team-high total to 25 on the year.
The Shoremen out-shot the Yeomen 58-35 and won the ground ball battle 59-25. Additionally, Oberlin won just eight of the game's 36 face-offs.
The Yeomen return home to start conference play on Saturday against the College of Wooster. The opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
