Union, New Jersey – In their first of three spring break games, the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-11 battle with Kean. The Yeomen move back to a 4-2 record.
First-year attackers
Solomon Brennan and
Jacob Starcke accounted for eight of the team's 11 goals, both tallying four.
Michael Muldoon,
Ryan Blasberg, and
Max Cha each added a goal of their own while combining for four assists. On the defensive end,
Jake Pillsbury made a career-best 22 saves behind
Jonas Taylor-Lillquist's five caused turnovers and
Kiernan Stone's three.
The Cougars took the first point of the game before adding another thirty seconds later. Down 2-0 to start, Brennan responded with his first goal to put Oberlin on the board. Brennan tied the game up minutes later before a man-up goal from Starcke gave the Yeomen their first lead.
After adding another goal at the end of the first quarter, Brennan scored once more midway through the second quarter to even the score again at 6-6. Kean scored three unanswered goals in the final minutes of the half to sit on a 9-6 lead.
Kean exploded in the third quarter, holding Oberlin to one goal while adding another six of their own. The sole Crimson and Gold goal came after a pass from Muldoon to Starcke at the 9:28 mark during a man-up opportunity.
Blasberg ended the scoring drought for Oberlin early in the fourth period, followed by another Starcke goal to cut the Cougar's lead to six. With just about five minutes left to play, Cha added his first goal of the day which pushed the score to 16-10. Although too little too late, the Yeomen never gave up, adding one more goal before the final whistle. A pass from
Niko Maheras to Starcke capped off the 16-11 loss.
Oberlin takes a short rest before heading south to take on Washington College (MD) next Wednesday, March 22. The game is set to start at 1pm with a live stream available
