Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 6-3 victory over the visiting DePauw University Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
Oberlin caried a 2-1 in singles play after a pair of wins in the top two doubles battles. The top tandem of
Marta Laska and
Anna Pastore picked up their third win in the last four matches, gutting out an 8-6 victory over Kiley Shaw and Sonal Matta. In the second position,
Dina Nouaime and
Lydia Zafeiri had a little easier time against Ellen Gardner and Kat Wilder, winning 8-3. It marked the duo's sixth win in their last seven outings.
Laska made short work of Gardner in the top singles flight, earning a 6-1, 6-2 triumph for her second straight victory.
Pastore outlasted Matta 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 while Nouaime remained unblemished on the year in the singles play as she moved to 7-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 thumping of Wilder at No. 3.
DePauw's Valerie Doherty won the first set against Zafeiri 6-2, but the Oberlin rookie bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second before completing her sixth victory of the year with a 6-1 victory in the third.
The Yeowomen are now 5-3 on the year and will take on Allegheny College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the John W. Heisman Field House.
