Hilton Head, SC - The Oberlin College women's tennis team finished on the wrong end of a 5-4 decision against Millikin University in its first match of spring break.
Oberlin took a 2-1 lead into singles play after winning both doubles matches that were contested. In the top spot it was
Anna Pastore and
Marta Laska who prevailed 8-5 over Brianna Barconi and Katarina Carlberg. The No. 2 battle needed extra swings to determine a winner as the Yeowomen tandem of
Dina Nouaime and
Lydia Zafeiri earned an 8-7 (7-4) win over Nikol Obradovic and D Galvan.
Pastore would win by matching 6-1 counts against Barconi at No. 2, while Nouaime earned a three-set victory over Alexandra Ristfeldt in the third position with the Oberlin senior prevailing 6-1, 1-6, 10-4.
With No. 5 and No. 6 going to Millikin by default, it came down to the fourth flight but Zafeiri dropped a three-set affair to Carlberg 1-6, 6-2, 10-8.
The loss dropped Oberlin back to 5-4 on the year. The Yeowomen will be back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Union College.
