Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis recorded its first win of the season, defeating Hope College 6-3 on Saturday morning at the John W. Heisman Field House.
The only points for the Dutch came by default as Oberlin rolled in the top two doubles flights and breezed through the top four flights in singles play.
The No. 1 doubles battle went the distance as the tandem of
Anna Pastore and
Marta Laska outlasted the duo of Amanda Lopykinski and Sullivan Moran in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-3).
The second position also featured a closely contested match but the Oberlin pairing of
Dina Nouaime and
Lydia Zafeiri got by the Hope tandem of Miyako Coffey Taylor Truman, 8-6.
Hope, which is ranked 10
th in the ITA Central Region, had Lopykinski in the No. 1 singles flight but Laska got by her with relative ease 6-3, 6-2.
Pastore followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Annika Weeber at No. 2, while Nouiame added a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Coffey. The victory was capped by Zafeiri edging out Hope Rhoades by matching 6-4 counts.
The victory marked the first of the season for Oberlin, but the Yeowomen won't have much time to celebrate as they got right back to work tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match against Kalamazoo College.
