Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Earns a Key Point Against Denison

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought scoreless draw against the visiting Denison University Big Red on Wednesday night at Fred Shults Field.

The nil-nil result marked the second time in as many years that the Yeomen and Big Red matched up in a goal-less stalemate despite a plethora of chances for both sides.

How it Happened

The Big Red fired off 21 shots but just six were on frame. The Yeomen had the more dangerous opportunities but just could not finish one of their 11 attempts - four of which were on goal.

In the 16th minute a counter-attack saw Xander Francoeur leak behind the Denison rearguard but he appeared to slip just as he tried to fire off a left-footed shot to the far post but it rolled just wide. Louis Gandelheid and Toby Wells-Zimmerman also had first-half shot attempts that were turned away by Big Red keeper Tommy Prokos.

In the second half a pair of promising runs down the middle from Zach Moskowitz went for naught but the Yeomen kept up the offensive pressure.

Oberlin would play with a man advantage for the final six minutes after Andrew Nachtwey was sent off after earning his second yellow card and just moments later Oberlin would have its best opportunity of the night when Francoeur found himself with space in the box on the far side but his piercing shot was punched over the crossbar by Prokos to preserve the tie.

Louis Berger got the start in goal for the Yeomen and was impressive throughout the night as he finished with six saves.

The Yeomen (2-3-5, 0-0-2 NCAC) are back in action on Saturday night at Ohio Wesleyan. The opening touch is set for 7 p.m.
