Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Suffers First Conference Loss

DELAWARE, OH – The Oberlin College men's soccer team hit the road for an NCAC night match against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday night. The two teams fought to the final whistle, but the Yeomen came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline. The winless woes continue for Oberlin as they fall to 2-3-6 and 0-1-2 in the conference slate.

The Yeomen will spend the weekend recovering before hitting the road for a massive challenge against NCAA DI, Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish and the Crimson and Gold kickoff on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.

How it Happened

The Battling Bishops got off to a hot start, earning a corner kick in the match's opening minutes. Oberlin's defense wasn't tricked by the short play, driving the ball out into their attacking half. Although neither team capitalized on their first attempts downfield, it was OWU who came up with the first score. The Bishops crossed the ball upfield for ADSFA to slip past his defender and send a rocket into the upper-right corner.

Down a goal, Oberlin looked to halftime adjustments to find the equalizer. Even with a more aggressive midfield, the Yeomen struggled against the home team as OWU continued to control the pace of play. As the clock neared ten minutes, Ohio Wesleyan drove upfield before taking a shot inside the box that slipped past Colvin Iorio. The Crimson and Gold rallied to stay alive in the conference match but ultimately fell short in the final minutes to concede the game, 2-0.

Game Notes

  • Oberlin received one yellow card.
  • Iorio piled up nine saves for the Yeomen out of 26 total Battling Bishops shots.
  • Oberlin put just one shot on goal, produced by Nathan Thompson.
