Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College football team closed out the home portion of its schedule, falling 50-7 on Senior Day at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
Prior to the game the Yeomen honored their nine graduating seniors:
Jake Russell,
Hunter Wilson,
Adel Dibaei,
Ryan McCrum,
Drew Bernard,
Danny Ben-Tal,
Leander Herman,
Wes Penta, and
Jack Diskin.
It was an inspired showing by the Yeomen defense who came away with two interceptions, forced two fumbles, and held the Bishops to a combined 7-of-17 on third and fourth down.
Hunter Green led the unit with eight tackles, while Russell had two sacks. Overall, the Yeomen finished with six tackles for loss in the setback.
The defense set the tone on the first drive as Rusell sacked Kaden Buza on 4th-and-8 from the Yeomen 18-yard line, however, the Bishops would score on their next two possessions to take a 14-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
Trailing 21-0 midway through the second quarter it appeared as if Oberlin was going to get on the board but Sammy Stoner stepped in front of a
Drew Nye Pass at the goaline and raced 100 yards up the near sideline for a touchdown to make it 28-0. The Bishops would later add a safety to carry a 30-0 lead into the intermission.
Trailing 37-0 in the third quarter, the Yeomen would orchestrate their best drive of the game with a 13-play, 79-yard march that ended with some trickery as Diskin took an end-around and flipped it into the end zone to fellow wide receiver
Ben Ephraim from three yards out. The drive also featured a 13-yard catch by Diskin, 20 yards on two catches from
Evan Smith-Rooks, a 14-yard run from
Jamykle Benison, a 13-yard reception from
Colten Danel, and a 10-yard scramble from quarterback
Drew Nye.
The Yeomen defense would later stymie another potential OWU scoring drive, coming up with a goal-line stand late in the fourth quarter to thwart an 11-play drive.
Nye was 14-of-27 passing for 106 yards, while Nunu Samels led the rushing attack with 24 yards on 12 carries.
Oberlin limited Buza to just 141 yards on 13-of-19 passing to go along with two TDs two sacks, and an interception.
The Yeomen are back in action next Saturday at 1 p.m. at the College of Wooster.
