Men's Soccer Victorious Behind Goals from Amer

HIRAM, OH – After a quiet first half, the Oberlin College men's soccer team erupted to claim their first NCAC victory of the season on Wednesday night in Hiram. Defeating the Terriers 3-0, Oberlin moves to 3-6-5 on the season and 1-2-2 in the conference.

The Yeomen roll into a busy week, with their next appearance coming on Saturday, October 21, when they host Wittenberg for Senior Night. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m., with senior celebration taking place prior to kickoff.

How it Happened

After nearly 16 minutes of action, the Crimson and Gold recorded their first shot of the match, taken by Xander Francoeur to the low center of the cage. An early save from Hiram kept Oberlin off the board. The Yeomen continued to create opportunity as Nathan Thompson aimed towards cage minutes later. Colvin Iorio stopped the only shot Hiram took against the Yeomen as the two foes headed into halftime scoreless.

In a half that started much like the first, Thompson took the first shot on cage, sailing it high and right. It was a shot to the low, left corner off the foot of Nasim Amer that gave the Yeomen their winning push. Off a pair of assists from Graham Field and Zach Moskowitz, the Crimson and Gold pulled ahead 1-0. Just two minutes later, Thompson connected with the same corner of the goal for a 2-0 advantage over Hiram.

The Crimson and Gold backline was too strong for the Terriers to overcome as Oberlin held Hiram off the board through the final half. In the waning minutes of the match, Antony Commissaris connected with Amer for an insurance goal to close out a 3-0 victory.

Game Notes

  • Manning the cage for the full 90 minutes, Iorio tallied a trio of saves on his way to victory.
  • Thompson led the shooting with five shots, but it was Amer with the magic foot, placing 4-4 shots on cage and two in the back of the net.
  • Field earned his first career point, assisting in the 59' goal.
