Wooster, Ohio – The Oberlin College indoor track and field team returned to Wooster for The Fighting Scots Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
As the meet got underway, the field events took the stage first and the Yeowomen found immediate success.
Emma Hart earned a third-place finish in the women's pole vault event as she cleared 9-04.35 (2.85m), just shy of her career-best. In the men's long jump, Oberlin finished 1-2 as
Zack Lee earned gold with a career-best jump of 22-8.00 (6.91m) before
Jake Jarvis also finished with a PR of 22-7.25 (6.89m). On the women's side of the event, first-year
Anna Fritz captured the first-place honor with a leap of 16-8.50 (5.09m).
The top finishes continued coming as
Iyanna Lewis took the stand in the women's weight throw event. The senior star three nearly three meters farther than her opponents as she tossed 56-6.75 (17.24m).
Getting the foot races started, the Oberlin 'A' team finished second in the women's 4x200m competition with a time of 1:53.88 in a team comprised of
Ryley Steggall, Fritz,
Clara Smith, and
Myranda Montoye in the anchor position. The men finished third (1:35.03) with a team of
Cole Fuller,
Reese Hyatt, Jarvis, and Lee.
Eliza Medearis absolutely crushed her career time in the mile run, finishing in fourth with a time of 5:35.76. The Yeomen finished with a pair of runners in the top-five of the mile race, as newcomers
Charlie Endres (4:31.49) and
Liam Newman (4:39.90) led the way for the Crimson and Gold. Sophomore sprinter, Fuller earned Oberlin another top-five finish with a time of 53.83 in the men's 400m race.
Eclipsing her previous rookie time of 8.50, Steggall finished fifth overall in 8.35 in the women's 60m sprint before
Kambinachi Obioha (2:01.21) earned the 800m crown and a new PR.
Sam Fechner continued the meet with a third-place finish in the 200m run with a time of 23.55 to cap off the competition.
The squad returns to competition next weekend on Saturday, January 28 as they head to Berea, Ohio for the annual Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge, hosted by Baldwin Wallace.
