Inside the Series …
Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between Oberlin and Alvernia … Oberlin is one of the longest running college football programs in the country, starting play all the way back in 1891 … Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves are in just their fifth year with 2018 being their inaugural season.

Scouting the Golden Wolves …
Alvernia is coming off a 59-27 season-opening loss to Ursinus, but it wasn't for a lack of offense as they racked up 444 yards - 380 of which came through the air ... Freshman QB Colin Payne was 24-of-48 with two touchdowns to go along with two interceptions … It was a diverse arsenal they employed as eight different players caught a pass with fifth-year Neeko Scurlock leading the way with 92 yards on six receptions .… Senior linebacker Tajon Whiten, who had 10 tackles in week one, leads a vulnerable defensive unit that was gashed by Grizzly Bears for 551 yards and eight touchdowns … Alvernia is coming off an 0-10 season in 2021 and has not won since October 12, 2019 when they beat Lycoming College 29-24 … The Wolves, who have just three wins in program history since their inception in 2018, head into Saturday on an 18-game losing streak.

Last Time Out for the Yeomen …
Oberlin dropped its season opener on the road at Kalamazoo College, falling 21-14 … Senior quarterback Chris Allen Jr. finished 23-of-39 passing for 211 yards and two scores to accompany his 39 yards rushing … Senior Brian Colarusso was his top target, finishing with a career-high 114 yards on a career-best 11 catches … The Hornets scored two first-quarter touchdowns and added a third early in the second half to hold off the Yeomen … Special teams and field position was what ultimately did the Yeomen in at the end despite having more yards (321-292) and first downs (22-19).

Spoon-Fed …
It was a breakout performance last Saturday for second-year wide receiver Ty Weather as he snagged seven balls for 85 yards and two touchdowns against Kalamazoo … As a rookie, Weatherspoon had just five catches on the season and one touchdown, which came on November 6 DePauw University.

Home Horrors …
The Yeomen have had their struggles at home over the past few seasons, going winless at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex in 2021 and are just 1-14 over the last three seasons (2018, 2019, 2021) … Oberlin's last home victory came on October 19, 2019 when they beat Hiram College 7-0 … The Yeomen hope to return to their 2017 form when they went 4-1 on home soil.

Fresh Faces …
A total of 14 newcomers made their respective collegiate debuts last week against Kalamazoo with three first-years earning starts … Mike Mathis, a 6-foot-5 315-pound specimen from Bingham Farms, Michigan, drew the start at left tackle, while Solomon Brennan and Hunter Green started on the defensive side of the ball at corner and linebacker, respectively ... Green tied Luca Friedman for a team-high seven tackles in the game.

Playing Keep Away …
Last season the Yeomen led the NCAC in time of possession, averaging 32:34 per game … In week one, the Yeomen picked up right where they left off, holding the ball for nearly nine more minutes than the Hornets at 34:14 … The Yeomen had three drives over 4:30, including two second-half jaunts that took 6:56 and 8:45, respectively.
