Yeowomen Suffer Pair of Losses in Indiana

Greencastle, Indiana- The woes of the Oberlin College volleyball team continued after a pair of losses at DePauw on Saturday afternoon. Getting their conference season started in an early game with the Tigers, Oberlin fall short 3-0 (6-25, 23-25, 18-25) before the Yeowomen conceded again to Hanover in a 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 11-25) match. The losses move Oberlin to 0-1 in the NCAC and 7-6 on the year.

Andréa Jones led the offense in the losses, tallying eight kills in each match while Iyanna Lewis eight kills over the two matches. On the defense, Natalie Dufour combined for four block assists and a solo block while Lindsey Felton and Jillian Jendsen made double-digit digs.

Against the Tigers, the Yeowomen struggled to find their grounding in the first match before a 7-2 run to open the second set. In a close set, the NCAC foes found themselves tied at 23-23 before DePauw made consecutive kills to take the win. Ultimately dropping the third set, the Yeowomen made a quick turnaround to face Hanover.

In their second match of the day, Oberlin looked to get back on track against the Panthers but a slow start got the Yeowomen off on the wrong foot. Down 1-0 after losing the first set, Zeynep Kaya gave Oberlin their largest lead of the day off four-straight service aces. The Panthers fought from behind and, on a late-set run, overtook Oberlin for the victory. As the third set got underway, the Yeowomen seemed to have run out of momentum and Hanover earned the win.

Earning a week to reset their strategy, the Yeowomen get back on the court in a conference matchup with Ohio Wesleyan next Saturday, October 1. A live stream available here and live stats available here.
