Inside the Series …
Saturday marks the 77th time the Big Red and Yeomen have battled on the gridiron in a series that dates back all the way to 1911 … Denison has won eight straight contests against Oberlin with the last Yeomen triumph coming on October 13, 2012 in the form of a 30-6 victory … It was a banner day for quarterback Josh Mandel as he threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns … Classmate Robin Witjes was his top target, catching a career-high 12 balls for a career-best 222 yards and two touchdowns, which still ranks fifth all-time for receiving yards in a game.

Scouting the Big Red …
Denison offense has been red hot to start the season, leading the NCAC and ranking ninth in the nation with 55.5 points per game … The Big Red have also been stout defensively, giving up just 15.5 points per game to sit second in the NCAC … Junior running back Trey Fabrocini has been a load on the ground, averaging 115 yards per game while scoring an NCAA-leading seven touchdowns through two games … As a team, Denison has scored 15 touchdowns to lead the NCAC – four ahead of second-place Wooster (11) … Defensively, the Big Red have five takeaways with four interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Last Time Against the Big Red …

The Big Red ground game proved to be too much for the young Yeomen defense as the visitors racked up 303 rushing yards on 42 carries for an average of 7.2 yards per rush in the 59-12 win ... Quarterback Drew Dawkins threw just nine times but made the most of his attempts as he completed six passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns as the Big Red finished with 528 yards of total offense … Oberlin rushed for 92 yards with Kobe Brooks leading the way with 49 yards on nine attempts … Chris Allen Jr., Matt Siff, and Evan Smith-Rooks each saw time under center and combined to go 22-of-43 for 208 yards with two touchdowns and an interception by Siff … Four different Yeomen finished with 40 or more receiving yards with Brian Colarusso and Jack Diskin leading the way with 53 yards each ... Nathaniel Castro added 47 yards on two catches.

Movin' On Up …
Senior quarterback Chris Allen Jr. continued his climb up the Oberlin record books, moving into sixth all-time in total offense with 4,453 yards with eight games left to play … Through two weeks, the Atco, New Jersey, native has accumulated 585 yards (468 passing, 117 rushing) … Allen, who ranks sixth in the NCAC in rushing at 58.5 yards per game, heads into Saturday just 256 yards shy of Josh Mandel (4,709) for fifth on the all-time list.

A Piercing Influence …
The Yeomen offense got a welcomed boost last week with the return Pierce Muthui-Edwards after he missed the final nine games of 2021 and week one this year … The speedy Muthui-Edwards had 12 touches in his first game back with six on the ground and six through the air as he finished with 48 receiving yards.

Three-Headed Monster …
Wide Receivers Ty Weatherspoon and Brian Colarusso along with senior tight end Brandon Davies have excelled in the Yeomen passing attack through the first two games … The trio has accounted for 422 of the team's 492 receiving yards and 39 of its 50 catches … Weatherspoon is ninth in the NCAC at 80.5 yards per game while Colarusso is 10th at 80 ypg … Weatherspoon and Davies each have two TD catches, making Oberlin the only conference school to have two players with two receiving touchdowns.

Ball Hunter …
First-year linebacker Hunter Green has made an immediate impact on the Yeomen defense as the 6-foot, 215-pound, product from Odenton, Maryland is tied with Luca Friedman for the team lead with 20 tackles through two weeks … Green, who also has one pass break-up, is tied for fifth in the NCAC with an average of 10 stops per game.
