Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College track and field teams battled the elements on day one of the Bob Kahn Invitational.
The early portion of the meet featured the women's hammer throw with the Yeowomen claiming four of the top five places in the event.
Iyanna Lewis, who currently ranks 10
th in the nation, posted a winning toss of 155-10 (47.50m), while
Abby Cannon followed in second at 139-11 (46.65m). Junior
Shayla Keegan was third (136-05/41.58m) with classmate
Victoria Blair (133-03 / 40.61m) rounding out the Oberlin contingency in fifth.
Senior
Maggie Allen added a second-place showing in the javelin with a launch of 96-05 (29.38m), while junior
Theo Haviland set a new personal-best in the event with a winning throw of 148-08 (45.31m). Sophomore teammate
Isaiah Schuham-Anders was third with a personal-best mark of 130-08 (39.82m).
Zac Ntia improved upon his second-place ranking in the conference in the hammer throw with a career-best and winning toss of 159-03. (48.45m). Schuham-Anders was fourth with career-best mark of 138-09 (42.30m).
In the first running event of the night,
Sunniva Sheffield clocked in third in the 5,000 meters, completing the trek in 18:53.85.
In the men's 10,000, junior
Ross D'Orfani moved into third into the conference as he finished the grueling journey in 32:35.85 to place second. Classmate
Niels Vanderloo was fourth in 33:03.45.
In the pole vault, which was contested inside due to the weather, junior
Sarah Voit moved into eighth in the nation with a clearance of 12-02 (3.71m). On the men's end,
Carter LaPointe was fifth with a mark of 13-01.75 (4.01m).
The Bob Kahn Invitational will continue tomorrow with field events getting underway at 10:30 a.m.
