Oberlin, OH- The Oberlin men's lacrosse team kept moving the needle with another NCAC victory against Allegheny on Wednesday night. In the 12-3 win, fifth-year senior
Tom Decker, scored his 100
th career goal to join an elite club with six other alumni. The Crimson and Gold improve to 11-2 on the season and 5-1 in the conference.
The 11 total victories ties a school record for the most of any season in Yeomen lacrosse history with the most recent time coming in 1994 when the team finished 11-4. Oberlin's five league wins are the most since the formation of the NCAC in 1984.
Â
Michael Muldoon paced the way for the Yeomen offense, putting up five goals on the evening. With two goals and two assists,
Ryan Blasberg also oiled the offense while
Niko Maheras tallied his sixth hat trick of the season. Anchoring the defense,
Ben Johnson scooped up six ground balls and caused a quartet of turnovers.
Matt Huang, Decker, and Blasberg followed close behind with five ground balls each, while Decker notched another three CTOs.
Â
It was close game in the opening quarter, but it was a Muldoon show as the senior scored all of Oberlin's three goals in the first period. The Yeomen continued their slow run with another three goals in the second quarter, starting with a shot from
Max Cha. Two more quick goals from Muldoon put the Yeomen up by four before Decker extended the lead again to end the half.
Â
Oberlin welcomed the third quarter with another slow start, not notching their first goal until the 4:24 mark with a Maheras shot. Seconds later, Blasberg connected with the back of the net with the tandem working together for the next goal. With a safe eight-goal lead, the Yeomen scored another two insurance goals in the final quarter of play to take the 12-3 victory.
