Women’s Team Fourth; Yeomen Seventh at All-Ohio

Delaware, OH – The Oberlin College track and field teams tested themselves against their in-state competition on Saturday at the All-Ohio Championship meet on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
 
The women's team placed fourth out of 14 teams with 111 points, while the Yeomen were seventh out of 13 teams with 56.5 points.
 
The Yeowomen got off to a good start in the morning hammer throw event, claiming three of the top five spots on the results list. Iyanna Lewis, who currently sits at 18th in the country in the event, bested the field with a mark of 160-09 (48.77m). Sophomore Abby Cannon took third with a personal-best heave of 151-06 (46.18), while junior Shayla Keegan also set a new PR with a toss of 148-05 (45.24m) to end in fifth.
 
Cannon later returned finish second in the discus at 123‑07 (37.66m) and take fourth in the shot put with a toss of 36-07 (11.15m). Victoria Blair was fourth in the discus (121‑04 / 36.99m) and Keegan was fifth (119‑03 / 36.36m).
 
In the women's long jump, Malaïka Djungu-Sungu's first attempt was her best as she posted a winning mark of 17-08.75 (5.40m) to beat 18 other competitors and add All-Ohio Champion to her impressive list of accomplishments this season. The winning continued for the Arlington, Texas, native as she recorded a clearance of 36‑05.75 (11.12m) to take the top spot in the triple jump as well. Aesha Mokashi added four team points with a fifth-place finish in 34‑08.50 (10.58m).
 
Senior Maggie Allen was third in the javelin with throw of 94‑01 (28.67m) while classmate Phoebe von Conta took second in the 5,000 meters, completing the trek in 18:19.22.
 
Sophomore Eliza Medearis turned in a career-best run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, shaving off 34 seconds from her previous best to move into third in the NCAC with a time of 12:00.48 to finish second in the race.
 
On the men's side, Zac Ntia moved into third in the NCAC in the shot put with an outdoor personal-best of 46-08.75 (14.24m) to place second overall, while Theo Haviland took third in the javelin with a launch of 143‑09 (43.83m). Carter LaPointe cleared 13‑01.50 (4.00m) to take in the fifth in the pole vault. Jarvis also added fourth-place showing the triple jump (42‑02.00 / 12.85m).
 
The Yeomen's 4x100 relay unit of Jarvis, Reese Hyatt, Carson Franks, and Sam Fechner clocked in at 42.97 to take third place. After the relay, first-year Walter Moak cracked the top five in the NCAC in the 1,500 meters, trimming four seconds off his personal-best to place fourth overall in 4:03.44. Moak picked up three more points for the team by taking sixth in the 800-meters in 1:58.95.
 
Oberlin is back in action next Saturday at the 52nd Annual Sparky Adams Invitational on the campus of Baldwin Wallace University.
