Men’s Lacrosse Staves Off Capital

Bexley, OH - The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team recorded its third win of the season, outlasting the Capital University Comets by a score of 9-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Tom Decker and Michael Muldoon led the Yeomen charge with three goals each.

It was 2-1 Yeomen after the first as Muldoon and first-year Niko Mahres bookended a Comets' goal.

Decker's first score of the game came early in the second quarter but the Yeomen were blanked the rest of the half while Capital posted two tallies to even the count at 3-3 going into the intermission.

The third quarter was the highest scoring period of the contest with each side finding the back of the cage three times. Mahres deposited the first score after the restart but three straight finishes by the Comets had the Yeomen facing a two-score deficit at 6-4. However, Oberlin would level the match heading into the final frame as Muldoon finished off a feed from Max Cha and Decker would send in his second score with 24 ticks remaining in the frame.

The final session started the same way the third period ended with Decker knifing his way through traffic to put the Yeomen out in front for good. Connor Quinn, who went 12-of-19 at the face-off X, followed with a score to extend the lead out to two. A Mason Spaulding goal had the Comets back to within one but Mulodoon would finish off his hat trick with 8:20 left to play and the Yeomen defense pitched a shutout the rest of the way to preserve the win.

Eugene Kang was impressive in net once again, keeping the opposition under 11 goals or less for the third time in four games.

Oberlin is back in action on Wednesday night at Otterbein University. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
