Albion, MI- Tying the game a trio of times in the first half, a second half push from Albion proved too much for Oberlin as they fell to the Brits 21-13. The Yeomen move to an even 1-1 on the season.
Leading the Yeomen attack,
Max Cha amassed five goals and a pair of assists in what was a career day for the junior. Also highlighting the offense was
Ryan Blasberg with a pair of goals and an assist of his own.
In cage for Oberlin was
Eugene Kang who tallied 15 saves while the rest of the defense brought in 22 groundballs and caused 12 turnovers.
After giving up the first three goals of the game, Oberlin responded as faceoff specialist
Connor Quinn got Oberlin on the board winning the faceoff and sprinting downfield for a quick goal. The Crimson and Gold kept the goals coming as
Max Cha found the net on back-to-back plays for the 3-3 tie.
Albion outscored the Yeomen into the second quarter as Oberlin found themselves in a four-goal deficit. Oberlin found their momentum and, after goals from
Niko Maheras,
Tom Decker, and Cha, Mahaeras scored the equalizer 2:52 remaining in the half. Albion responded with a pair their own to regain a 10-8 lead ahead of the half.
A huge Blasberg goal 12 seconds after the whistle got the second half rolling. Oberlin was struggled to come within reaching distance of the Brits until
Sam Ryu scored a man-down goal at the end of the quarter to close the gap to three.
It was all Albion in the fourth quarter as they outscored Oberlin 6-1 in the final 15 minutes. The only score came from
Michael Muldoon off a failed clear attempt by the home team.
Looking to improve from the 21-13 loss, the Yeomen return to Michigan for their next MIAA matchup against Hope College next Saturday, March 5. The game will be on neutral turf in Ann Arbor, MI with face-off will be at 3:30pm.
