Westerville, Ohio – Bringing their A-game to the central Ohio, the Oberlin College Track and Field teams had an impressive showing at the All-Ohio Championships.
Kicking it off in the field,
Malaika Djungu-Sungu took third-place in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.41m. Djungu-Sungu followed that up with a first-place finish in the triple jump of 11.51m. The jumps are especially impressive as they are both career-highs for the senior.
Chilly Wallace and
Aesha Mokashi finished third and fourth in the triple jump, with lengths of 10.68m and 10.65m, respectively. On the men's side of the triple jump,
Xavier English leaped 13.27m for a fourth-place finish. In the shot put event,
Abby Cannon led the way for the Yeowomen with a bronze finish and a throw of 12.37m. In the weight throws,
Zac Ntia finished fourth for the Yeomen while
Iyanna Lewis and Cannon finished top-three for the Yeowomen. Lewis made a throw of 16.64m to take first place.
On the track,
Phoebe von Conta finished third in the 3000m race with a time of 10:30.19 before
Anna Scott took third in the one-mile race with a time of 5:18.44. The success kept coming for the Yeowomen as
Clare Tiedemann took second in the 60m sprint with a school-record time of 9.10. The record-breaking time moves the Senior to 27th in the nationa. In the 800m race,
Sage Reddish finished with a time of 2:21.60 for a fourth-place finish before the Oberlin 'A' team finished with a time of 4:16.04 in the 4x400m relay.
Out of a field of 16 teams, the Yeowomen amassed 82.5 points to finish second overall while the Yeomen finished 13th with ten points.
The Yeomen and Yeowomen get back on the track again on Friday, February 18 as they take on Case Western Reserve.
