Cleveland, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team earned their first win of the year, knocking off the Allegheny College Gatores 81-75 in the consolation game of the Bill Sudeck Tournament on the campus of Case Western Reserve.
The victory also marked the first for head coach
Shiva Senthil as the Yeomen are now 1-2 on the young season.
Dimitrije Radusinovic had a career day, pouring in 33 points on 12-of-21 shooting.
Dorde Otasevic added 15 points and eight rebounds, while
Yuuki Okubo chipped in 10 points to go along with eight assists in the win.
Allegheny got off a strong start, grabbing a six-point lead on a Luke Barker 3-pointer at the 12:06 mark that made it 23-17 in favor of the Gators. Oberlin would answer back as a Radusinovic triple-hit five minutes later put the Yeomen out in front 28-27.
Oberlin later trailed 33-32 but would close the session on a 10-4 run that featured long-range connections from Radusinovic and Otasevic, and four points from Okubo to make it a 42-37 Yeomen advantage at the half.
The Yeomen built up a seven-point cushion early in the second half, but a Presto Turk 3-pointer trimmed the lead down to 55-54 with just under 10 minutes to go. However, Oberlin responded with a 14-4 run that consisted of long-distance makes from
Cole Otley, Radusinovic, and Otasevic.
However, Allegheny wouldn't go away without a fight, getting within four, 77-73, in the closing seconds but the Yeomen finished off the victory with a dunk from
Andrew Gannon and a pair of free throws from Otasevic.
Oberlin shot 49.2 percent from the floor, connecting on 17 of the 32 shots they hoisted, which included an 11-of-27 (40.7%) showing from beyond the arc.
