Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 setback against the third-ranked Owls of Kenyon College on Tuesday night at Fred Shuts Field.
The Owls controlled the bulk of the possession in the first half and while the Yeomen rearguard did their part to keep them at bay, the visitors would eventually breakthrough in the 21
st minute as Aidan Burns finished off a cross from Scott Upton.
Moments later the Yeomen had their best scoring opportunity of the half as
Toby Wells-Zimmerman found space in the middle of the box but his header went directly to Jack Pedreschi.
Kenyon would ultimately carry a 2-0 cushion into the intermission as Matt finished off a beautiful executed set piece with assists coming courtesy of Johan Johannsson and Alem Duratovic.
Kenyon never let off the gas in the in the second half, tacking on three more goals to leave no doubt in the outcome.
Oberlin's best chance to score came in the 58
th minute as Wells-Zimmerman rifled a shot that was initially blocked and a follow attempt from
Antony Commissaris was turned away Pedreschi.
Colvin Iorio made six saves in 70 minutes of work to run his season account to 53.
The loss dropped the Yeomen back to 4-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in league play. The Owls remained unblemished at 11-0-1 and 3-0-1 in the NCAC.
Oberlin is back in action on Friday night at Wittenberg University. The opening touch is set for 7:30 p.m.
