Wooster, Ohio - The Oberlin College track and field teams competed for the first time in 2022 at the College of Wooster Invitational.
The Yeowomen won the four-team meet with 158 points, while the Yeomen were third with 90- points.Â
The meet got underway with the women's pole vault where
Sarah Voit, who ranks second in the nation in the event, was an easy winner with a clearance of 11-05.75 (3.50m). The Cincinnati, Ohio, native later won the 200-meter dash in 27.78.Â
It was a senior-laden 1-2-3 Oberlin finish in the women's long jump with
Clare Tiedemann taking the top spot at 16-03.25 (4.96m).
Jada Kennerly followed with a mark of 16-06.50 (4.92m), while
Malaika Djungu-Sungu rounded out the trio at 15-11.75 (4.87m).
Oberlin's dominant throwing contingency was on display once again, securing five of the top six places in the weight throw. Sophomore
Abby Cannon led the contingency with a heave of 51-05.75 (15.69m).
Iyanna Lewis (14.85m / 48-08.75),
Shayla Keegan (13.00m / 42-08.00), and
Jenna Frizzell (10.12m / 33-02.50) followed in order while rookie
Laura Stewart was sixth at 30-11.25 (9.43m).
Cannon returned to win the shot put with a toss 34-03.50 (10.45m) while Keegan was third (9.75m /32‑00.00) and Lewis fourth (9.21m/30‑02.75).
The field events rolled on with the Yeowomen tandem of
Hayden Hill and
Aimee Watts earning 11 team points in the high jump. Hill checked in third with a mark of 5-01.25 (1.56m), while Watts was fourth at 4-11.00 (1.50m).
On the oval,
Chilly Wallace earned a victory in the 60-meter hurdles, besting a field of nine in 9.82 seconds. First-year
Heather Benway registered her first-career win in the 60 meters with a time of 8.40.Â
On the men's end, the NCAC leader in the weight throw,
Zac Ntia, proved why as he bested an eight-person field with a toss of 53-03.75 (16.25m) in his hometown. He added a second-place showing in the shot put of 42-01.50 (12.84m).Â
Zack Lee and
Kofi Asare took the top two spots in the triple jump as Lee recorded a winning leap of 44-10.75 (13.68m) with Asare close behind at 44-01.50 (13.45m).Â
Turning in a third-place showing in the 14-person field of the 60-meter dash was first-year
Reese Hyatt in 7.36. Classmate
Jesse Herdman was second in the 800-meter dash in 2:05.35.Â
In the 200-meter dash the Yeomen claimed spots two through five with Asare taking second in the 13-person field in 23.77.
Cole Fuller (24.23) followed in third place with Lee (24.84) and
Carson Franks (25.05) rounding out the Oberlin contingency.Â
The Oberlin College track and field team will be back in action in two weeks at Baldwin Wallace University.Â
