Berea, OH- On the road for their third game, the Oberlin women's soccer team faced Baldwin Wallace for a matchup under the lights on Wednesday night. Although striking early, the Yeowomen were unable to respond again as they dropped their match to the Yellow Jackets, 2-1. With the loss, Oberlin moves to 2-2 on the year, while BW improves to 1-3.
Â
Oberlin looked to set the pace early as
Zoe Garver shot a header towards cage just 33 seconds into the match. The quick aggression paid off as
Madeline Lynam found the back of the net off a cross pass from Garver in the 13'. The Yeowomen played solid defense over the next ten minutes, until the Yellow Jackets found the equalizer to tie the game a 1-1. Both teams swapped possession over the remaining minutes of the half, highlighted by an
Isabelle Smith save to keep BW from taking the lead. Neither team were able to convert any shots as the clock expired, all tied up at one.
Â
Although Oberlin managed to take the first shot of the second half, Baldwin Wallace struck first sending a long shot outside the box into the back of the net to take the 2-1 lead. The Yeowomen looked to find the equalizer but struggled to get on their attacking side of the field as the Yellow Jackets dominated possession in the second half. Four-straight saves from Smith kept BW at bay but the Crimson and Gold struggled to capitalize on their scoring opportunities. A pair of last-minute shots from
Heather Benway and
Natacha Lee were saved by the BW goalie to end the match, Oberlin losing 2-1 to Baldwin Wallace.
