Meadville, PA- The Oberlin field hockey team traveled to Allegheny for a non-conference road match with the Gators on Wednesday evening. The Yeowomen held Gators to three points but it was not enough as Allegheny reigned victorious. The 3-0 loss moves the Yeowomen to an overall record of 0-7.
The first period was controlled entirely by the Gators as the Yeowomen back line faced three consecutive shots in the opening minutes. Senior keeper
Julia Vincent stood tall, stopping every shot that came her way. For the remainder of the first quarter, the Crimson and Gold were able to keep Allegheny off the scoreboard.
Opening with a penalty corner by the Gators, the second quarter started much like the first with plenty of defensive action from the Yeowomen. Vincent accounted for four saves in the period before Allegheny scored the first goal of the match. Without anymore shots from either team, the game went into halftime 1-0 in favor of the Gators.
Oberlin battled back in the third quarter, as both teams swapped possession for the majority of the 15-minute period. The Gators capitalized on their first scoring opportunity and took a two-goal lead over the Yeowomen. Needing to find momentum, the Yeowomen challenged the Gators' midfield but were unsuccessful as they conceded one final goal in the fourth quarter.
The Yeowomen hit the road once again for their next game against Earlham College on Saturday, October, 2. The match is set to begin at 1pm with live stream available
