Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Oberlin Field Hockey Endures Loss on Home Turf

Oberlin, OH- After letting in five goals during the first quarter of their non-conference match with Denison on Wednesday afternoon, the Oberlin field hockey conceded another loss on Bailey Field. By a score of 5-0, the Yeowomen were defeated by the Big Red and move to an overall record of 0-6.

The Crimson and Gold faced an uphill battle nearly the entire 60 minutes of the game, after the Big Red was able to net their first score just five minutes in. 90 seconds later, Denison struck again taking a 2-0 lead. Oberlin was able to stop the attack for the time begin but in the late minutes of the opening quarter, Denison found the back of the net three more times. Down 5-0, the Yeowomen looked to reset their team in the second quarter.

Early in the second period, Julia Vincent made a save off a penalty corner to keep the Big Red from notching another goal. Vincent and the Oberlin defense saw four more corners from Denison before the half, as well as a pair of back-to-back shots in the final minutes.

The second half looked much like the first, but this time with junior Mary Post stepping into cage. The Big Red completely controlled possession over the next 30 minutes, not allowing the Yeowomen a single scoring opportunity. Although never getting a break on defense, the Oberlin backline took the challenge in stride and held Denison scoreless for three-straight quarters. Not touching the goal again, the Denison Big Red overpowered Oberlin for a final score of 5-0.

The Yeowomen take the field again later this week for a date with Medaille College on Saturday, September 25. The match is set to begin at 1pm with live stream available here and live stats available here.
